Vol.98 Back Number ーFall in Japan as an apprentice farmerー

This story was written by Yuki Kennmura.

Although it's in the middle of winter both in Japan and Canada.  I guess it would be a great to introduce a story of the time of much less cold season...Fall in Japan!

As an apprentice grape farmer, I have been leading very busy life in this fall season.
After successfully finishing my second harvest season at a grape farm, we start to notice the changing of the colour and falling leaves of the trees.  What I do now is finding time between cold fall rain and snipping branches to prepare for the next season. The farm I have been working for also has a face as a winery so other jobs includes preparing and bottling wines. At the beggining of November a new wine was released. If you come around our farm, please make a visit and try our great selections of wines. It's called "Hoo rai san  winery" (ホーライサンワイナリー)

Website  http://www.winery.co.jp
Very well organized website even just looking at the pictures make you want to visit there!:)

Always amused by the beautiful leaves colours that can be seen at multiple spots nearby our farm.

While enjoying the calm fall, we should be getting ready for the upcoming season not only for the farm but also for the outdoor activities.
In my case, tuning and waxing telemark skis, alpine skis, cross country skis and checking the conditions of skins. Well one step at a time, my first priority now is to get ready for the very first ski for the season at Tateyama. Checking weather and solid skills are importrant but I believe checking the condintions of tools would be equally necessary thing to do....That reminds me that I still haven't finished repairing kayak so gotta do that before full on winter arrives....

Change of the story back to the farming. This site is going to be my workplace from next spring. From here we will organize and change this to a grape farm. It is only a planning and preparation stage but gradually we are taking actions step by step.

Farming is hugely affected by the circumstances that created by the great nature. So anytime even good or bad we have to get along with and respect the nature to work together. Same things can be said in outdoor activities. That's what farming attracts me.

Other than farming, I started to learn how to hunt. It's just initial stage but preferably I would like to share of those stories and info with you guys.

This is an apple farm of our landlord. Beautifully organized and maintained.

Eating seasonal food would heal and fuel our body for our new upcoming adventures.

Thank you for reading!
